Thesis Paintings_Day 17 - 51 Hours

Fridays seem to be a bad idea to paint, as they have a drawing class from 6pm onwards.
I didn't get much done but experimenting with possible backgrounds for the back pose and I worked on the larger portrait a little. Today was only useful for me to realize I really don't need the model to come in anymore. HHmmm... :/

Thesis Paintings_Day 16 - 48.5 Hours

A day of drowziness and stomach pain...~_~"
Marcy took a took at all of my paintings at start of our class, and told me to focus on 3 paintings that needs more work. But sadly, the long figure painting is the one I am most sick and tired of = I don't want to deal with it any more. I've spent too much quality time with it... :: sighs ::...

The class was mostly spent on the back pose painting, and the rest on the new portrait painting - for fun.

There will be a lot of over time invested before the show starts, I've arranged Fridays and Saturdays = Total of 12Hours, besides the 6hours of our classes during the week. I will also be dealing with the Thesis Paper :/...hhmm...

Right now the only paintings I will want in the show is the ear painting, and the two from last semester.
The hand, feet, and smaller portrait are all mostly done - but I'm not satisfied with them - nor do I adore them like my babies. :: discontent. ::.. I'm going to try and resolve this back pose painting, as it's my new love of interest.

------
Lastly, Luisa informed me that Josh and Edyta has worked on the show cards, and it has been purchased at 1800Postcards (online) - We'll be splitting the amount on it later.

I was never contacted for any of the meetings, nor informed when I saw them - So I am displeased and feel left out. But I still want it to be a success, so I want to help and get the ball rolling. We still need a press release and the P.R. aspects of our social politics done in the coming weeks. Hhhhmmm......

-----

A sample order of business cards came from Moo.com and it was nice, simple and likable.
However, I've been doing research and price comparisons; outside of experimenting layouts....

Lots to do... so little time... - Yet some part of me is feeling reckless and feel like pulling myself off of meds completely @_@" :: sighs ..::... I don't know...

Thesis Paintings_Day 15 - 45.5 Hours

I felt kind of depressed and discouraged since Wednesday night.
I was in a foul emotional state since Friday, and  I was still feeling that way when I was woken up this morning.
So I almost didn't want to participate in my life's activities today.
Li came from CT this morning too...
so she bribed me out with bubble tea after some rational thoughts being debated in the back of my head ...
.......

First thing I did when I got to school about 5pm(till 10pm..)..was going back on the cropped ear painting; I went back to my old painting style and combined it with my current techniques. I felt kind of estrange for me to be mixing colors with a brush again, and with squeezed paint out from a tube... lol ...But I'm proud to say..."I pulled it off.." hehehe....

Then I went back to do the shadows on the foot painting...

And Lastly, I pulled out the painting that I took a print of the back pose painting...
I had always like the self portrait that I did of just my facial shadows that was cast from dramatic lighting... so I thought I'd do one of those again...but regular lighting...

I don't think it came out as nice at all >_<"

The only thing I that I liked about it was the fact that I was drawing with the brush how I did back in figurative drawing class... with my arm stiff and a little sore lol..it made me nostalgic.

Thesis Paintings_Day 14 - 40.5 Hours

I pitched the idea to Marcy last night and more or less so got rejected about 3 times.... but last time before leaving the classroom was to talk about it next week...~_~" :: sighs ..::... And Butch seems really disappointed when he saw the new changes to the back pose painting...He said I made it looked the same as everything else I've got so far.... (that was kinda upsetting too..but this was when class was over already... )

In short, I felt really down working last night after Marcy rejected my proposal... so I just worked full on in my despair for the whole night. (with new bottles of colors that I bought in on Tuesday night.)

The only piece of good news I have is that Marcy said there don't seem to be a time limit on how many extra hours I can use the Model for this Thesis Show :) :: content..:: but I've asked her to confirm just to be 100% certain. I want to have time to finish these newer pieces that I just started, and be ready for May 10th ...by 05/6th....when they hang our stuff... :: deep sighs...::...

I don't want to have any regrets or bad memories of my paintings during my Senior Thesis. I want to be able to like my own paintings for this show, since I don't like'em most of the time >_<"

Day 13 - 37.5 Hours

Today was the first time I went in on Saturday for this to paint, and it's all because I finally got approval to have model on Wednesday. I got there at about 3pm but there was a class going on in there. The train was shit-tastic today (the #1,2, & 3) - Vannya got held up abit too. But the EOP drawing class kept me from starting my painting session till 4pm. I started the session by going back to the back pose painting.... and added more paper to it.... stained it.... and sprinkled paper on the lines I retraced with paint; but I took a print of the painting before doing this, on another older painting of mostly stained and egg shell collaged surface.

Then I went back into the 2piece figure painting...
And then the small cropped pieces... and also started a new one of VanNya's Right Ear

I felt pretty accomplished today, as I got a lot done and got to experiment a little as well. ^.^  But I ran out of medium pretty quickly in this longer painting session....I almost thought I wasn't going to be able to paint this whole 6hr session.I pitched an idea to Vannya, which is for us to come in and cram out a full day session and just skipping Mon. & Wed. nights.... but I would need Marcy's approval...hhmmmm

Got home about 10:40pm and started to refill my medium bottles, besides pouring some more paint into my new containers so I can bring them to school next week. ^.^ It took kind of long, since I was using a Baskin-Robin's pink spoon to get the paint to transfer without it spilling all over the place. I only managed to get 3 different paint colors done, and filled 5bottles of mediums from the gallon buckets that I bought from DickBlick.

Painting - Day 12 - 30th Hours

As planned, I put up the 2piece painting up against the wall before painting anything tonight - so Marcy and I can get a feel of how it's going to look in the Senior Thesis Show. We were playing around with the arrangement of the smaller paintings around it. She suggested for me to paint more cropped body parts to tie in the other 3 small paintings. . . . hhmmm.....
After realizing the proportions were completely off and especially the lower body... I went back into this painting again and made corrections with the black gesso. (This pose was a little harsh on Vannya's body after a long period of time posing for me :/..hhhmm... I'm glad it's almost over so she can be more at ease sitting for me. )

------------------------------------------------------------

Then I moved onto the 2nd stage of the second large figurative painting, I incorporated the finely shredded papers that was found in the hall way a couple of weeks ago. The paper helped blotting out the area of the figure, so I don't waste paint covering the light, mid-tones, and dark areas - while confusing myself at the same time. @_@"  However, the scale of this painting was still giving a tough time, but I tried to make it work and it seemed to be slightly easier than the last painting session ^.^

Painting - Day 11 - 27th Hours

Last night I bought in two of the house paint colors that I bought from Homedepot over the winter break. This greenish/blueish color that's just sooo sexy ! I'm definitely going to buy more later on :). The bottles from the container store also worked out pretty well. I got 3 bottle sizes that will work with the current bottle tips that I already own. ^.^ :: thrilled !! ::

After working on the large figure painting that's almost done - Marcy spoke with me, and we agreed it was better for me to start another painting. It seems that I work better with multie paintings at a time, and it's also better for the technique I've been using with the bottles. The painting tends to form puddles when I'm working on only one painting, without any other canvases to switch over to allow some drying time in between.

So these images shows the beginning of this new painting....
I started painting with a gift card I had on my person to blot out the shape of the figure first; This is how I usually would draw during a drawing class, which I couldn't do in my other painting classes.
Then I started to paint with my right hand because the paint had engulfed it.
But as always, for definition - I went back to my lines and using bottles to get the ease of application. I kept on feeling that the drawing part was off. This painting is bigger than the last few paintings, and I can't quite work standing over it because of the scale - and the fact that I can't stretch my self that apart ~_~" (Other words, inconsistent viewing perspective....)

Hopefully, I can finish it in time for the Thesis Show. Marcy got our chairperson to agree to let me get a model on Saturdays, so I'll be going into the school to paint some more starting this weekend ^.^

Butch came in last night (my first year painting Professor), he was very excited to see my new paintings. It made me very happy, because his energy was just through the roof lol.

Lastly, I went back to Jetro today, the restaurant depot store to buy more bottles (ketchup bottles). The one in College point, Flushing had a larger variety in bottle size from 12oz-32oz and with wide mouth opening caps ^.^ I bought the 16oz one today, and if all works out well - it will also fit an old bottle cap with a tip. :: fingers crossed :: hehe

Painting - Day 10 - Absent

I stayed home last Wednesday, and I just got Endoscopy done today at 11am. My left wrist hurts right now, because they stuck the needle through there to knock me out >_<", and something tells me it's going to bruise and cause more OW  ...bbllaahh  ... x_x

Today, I started pouring the 1st gallon size paint bucket into the wide mouth bottle I got from the Container Store. It poured alright, just some slight spills. I just bought a batch of bottles ($53.03 @_@") from them to test out the size and their cap screws - to see if it's compatibility with some of the other caps I already have; so I can draw fine lines and then ranging to thicker line ^.^

The spill paint was recycled by staining my smaller canvases, as if I was dying them in a bucket ^.^ hehe
Because the pigment is acrylic base, it means I never have to waste my paint as long as I got water. :)

It's Spring break for me since Wednesday (03/24th) - till April 4th. I've got a lot to get done before the break is over. Marcy wants us to be able to tell her the scale of all our paintings for the Senior Thesis Art Show by the time we come back. :: deep exhales...::.... I can't believe the end is this close within my grasp! I still have ideas, and things I want to explore; but I'm afraid I won't have time to complete everything before the hanging date - which is May 05th and 6th. The show will be on May10th, and opening reception will be at 6:30PM. I don't know how our two large groups are going to coordinate everything this year. @_@"  - We need press release, show cards, and site. (Which some people suggested Lauren and Me - because I took the course before them and saw how last year's got coordinated.) Then we need our own individual site, art cards and or business cards done before the show is up; which I intend on completing within my break, along with catching up with school work and spending some extra time to paint in school? :: sighs..:: SO MUCH TO DO!!!

I can't wait for May25th !! My Graduation Ceremony !! The first one my Grandparents gets to see ^.^  :: very happy ::

Painting - Day 09 - 24 hrs

Once again I worked on the upper half torso. But soon that part got filled with paint, so I started working on her lower body on the canvas as well till the end of the class. I started to attempt the over head hand tonight, but mostly on the gesture. However, I started to run out of medium tonight, and after I refilled all my colored bottles - I was able to take 2 Large empty bottles home to refill with more medium hehee. ^.^

But I think I kinda killed the face tonight in comparison to the progress I made last class....:: sighs.. :: I had a bad day.... maybe it shows? lol

Painting - Day 08 - 21 hrs

Went in to paint tonight, and found out Marcy wasn't there Monday night. I got comforted a lot after I informed them of why I was absent. My model felt bad for me, she kept on looking at me with a sad poutie look. :: amused ::

Tonight I just worked on the upper half of the painting because I'm determined to get that face right and pretty. ^.^

I also got a chance to discuss with Marcy about the idea I have, but she loves what I'm doing now and don't want me to switch lanes. She's also going to see if I can get a model on Saturday if I go in and put forth some over time ^.^

Painting - Day 07 - Absent

I ended up in the Emergency room yesterday in Elmhurst Hospital.

They kept me there for about 5hours because I had a chest pain that lasted over 15hours combined. (twice now...when I was trying to write pain, I ended up writing Paint...@_@" - I think my subconscious is trying to tell me something hahhaha....)

They did 2EKGs, 1 X-Ray, 1 Urine test, and gave me 2 regular, plain, white, generic Tylenols > right before I left with my discharge papers and a excuse slip for my internship place.

The up side of that eternal visit was a 2week prescription made from uncertain diagnosis with the hope that it'll work :: wink wink ::, and a reminder of how crappy hospital food is. Oh Oh..... and listening to hospital gossips from the cops and the nurses, while a drunk stabbed patient snores like Jurassic Park was moved next to me.

I went to see my family doctor today, and also saw a G.I. by referral.

So this week I'll be getting Sonography done for my abdomen area.

On March 27th, 11AM - I'll be getting Endoscopy done, which is basically a doctor sticking a camera into my stomach to get a grand tour of my insides.

And if this is not a stomach problem...I'll be seeing a doctor about my lungs... :: said the "Non-Smoker"...::... Because that's what was recommended during my 5hour visit.

The End.

>>>>> >>>>> >>>>> >>>>> >>>>> >>>>> >>>>> >>>>> >>>>> >>>>>

On the other hand,

I've been thinking about making a painting scroll that will be the size of Picasso's "Guernica" = 11ft x 25.6ft = 349 cm × 776 cm = (137.4 in × 305.5 in)

And I want this piece to be purely abstract, which I'll be doing on my own time.

I think this scale will match the school's Great Hall (6,289 Sq Feet) a lot better. :)

Now I just need to find out the height of this place!!!! @_@"

Painting - Day 06 - 18th hr

Broke a sweat....

I went back into the figure and spent most of the time drawing the face - Repeatedly....
It made me a little paranoid about messing it up, so as precaution.... I'm going to set it up standing and paint with a brush to draw before I go back on it with a bottle.

Right now, I feel like the proportion part is off by the head, breasts... legs... so to me the general thing is wrong... so I'm not liking it as much. Secondly, the model is standing, and with one leg on the ground; maybe I'll sketch and then paint on my own some time too.... I don't want a slightly different pose every time, it messes with all the time I'm putting into measuring.

We also had a visitor during the middle of our class, Professor Richard Pitts came in to check up on us. He's also teaching the other senior painting class. He encouraged me to put together the smaller paintings with this larger piece, and people will read it together even if I don't right now. So I did, and I think it might work.... I just don't think the colors work together as a whole....

Marcy has been encouraging me to make more, especially since I did bring it more canvases. And I'm very glad she likes my current paintings so much. But I don't know if I'll be able to put everything in the show? Since we don't know how they're going to be curating it till we're all done in May. :: sighs ...:: I also need to know the measurements of the Great Hall, like at least the height of it. (Which no one has told us...)

Suikang also walked in later on but mostly to look around.

"Lots to do, so little time..."

>>>>> I kept on having ideas on other paint applications, like how I'd usually draw with pastel sticks. It leads be back to sponge brushes and cake decorating techniques.... @_@" aahhhh.....

Painting - Day 05 - 15th hr

Over the weekend, I bought 5 old paintings from home to school. So today I had plenty of canvases to do whatever I please. I did started drawing on one of the 24"x48" canvas at first with blue paint, and then I pieced them together for a bigger scale... Because I saw Paul using a large scale when I went in on Saturday... it made me think and I thought I should too since the Great Hall is really big. So I put two canvases together and made it 24"x96".

The started of a new painting today:

Phase 1

I was very concerned about proportion, so I blocked it out with black gesso first.

>>>> ....BEFORE.....

I really liked painting on top of this dypitch project that was made from Feinbergs 2008 class, where I worked with twine, toth picks, tissue paper, strings, egg shells, and my own hair.
>>>>>
.......................

Phase 2

Started covering shadow areas with red, and yellow where the light was hitting.
...............................

Last Phase of the night...

I went in with blue to re-do the proportions again...and lining...
Now I'm just praying the face don't come out scarey with this bottle line drawing technique... :: fingers crossed ::

Painting - Day 04 - 12th hr

I started working on the 30"x30" canvas that I bought in on Monday. VanNa even gave me a new pose that I was in love with, but the canvas was too small for my liking, so now I'm going to wait for a larger scale canvas to get bought into the school this weekend. ^.^

All the excitement of this new painting quickly faded tonight and I was just not feeling anything I was doing. So I called it quits rather early... :/ ...

VanNa tried to give me one other pose with her arms before I gave up. I just tried to get the paint back into a bottle and patterned some areas on the foot painting.

Monday, March 1, 2010

Painting - Day 03 - 9th hr

I bought in an old painting from 2006, 30"x30" that I made during Professor Jessel's class.

But since I never finished it nor did I like it, it shall now become the background layer of my new painting lol And after I go through my basement, there'll be more paintings getting a face lift. (I only liked that shade of blue greenish color a the lower left corner, and the contrast it has with that light yellowish color I mixed ^.^)

... Beyond that.. I worked on the Portrait painting and it's almost done.

The foot got a background color too, but needs more work.

Lastly, the hand painting that I was very happy about the last time got ruined today.
A guy pushed his large canvas on top of my smaller canvas and ruined it for me.
His canvas was stuck to mine, so Melissa and Marcy helped me get it off.
A knife had to be used.... as any pulling would of ripped the paint off my canvas.

I was really angry, even though I didn't realize it was that painting at first since I was so tired.
It took me a while to shake the impulse of an eye for an eye.... I kept on telling Melissa I was Pro Blind. :-/.... :: sighs..::.. Anyways, I couldn't bare to look at that painting as it made me upset.

So Marcy, being a wonderful Professor decided to help me a little more and soaked medium on top of the canvas that was still stuck onto mine after being detached by cutting. The canvas is now flatter, but either way I more or less so will need to collage on top of this one... Marcy said more paint... but it just didn't struck me that way. Frankly, I don't want to look at it for a while...

The green streak there is where the paint got pushed... ~_~" aarruugghhh

Christopher.... the guy who caused me all this misery tonight ... was informed by Melissa of what happened... Because I was trying to restrain myself from cursing him out lol Especiall when I was watching him bring down his painting. Bu they were right, he did seem like a decent guy...

I simply pointed out "the Preist boinked a boy" - So I don't care how nice he looks!!

But he did apologize afterwards and we spoke a bit before I left for the night.

I said this something like this to him:

As artists, creators of new life, we just have to make it work some how!!!

Tattoo Apprenticeship & Gallery Internship

Tattoo Apprenticeship

So last night I went to the shop at 8pm...and checked the after math of what was done on Friday.
I was trying to sync his contacts, emails, and other web applications. So I was on the hunt for different usful softwares, like 8hands... which I was disappointed by, since they only have it for PC and not MAC. I also created an online drop box for everyone to share files and info. so they can work easier fromt their location of comfort. I just love establishing structure! it makes things run efficiently... and then makes more productivitiy! :)

Anyways, back to last night - we all went to Fontana's about 10pm. Guy's Band Stellar Ego perform was performing at 11pm, so we helped out with ticketing and hand support during voting lol... I really respect and admire what he's trying to pursue here, so I'm gonna try and contribute what I can during this hectic semester for me.

The Orange I tattooed last Sunday.... my 1st ^.^

Gallery Internship

I went to the Space Gallery today, and went in for my first full day sitting. I was all by myself since everyone went to the event space near Vernon Bluv. at 5th Street in L.I.C. So I took the initiative to clean up and organize the gallery space. It gave me a really good work out lol.... I was sweating most of the day hahhaa.... Once in abit I would check the Gallery's Facebook to check for updates or adds...and etc Then headed over to the event space where they're hanging stuff for MoFa (Museum of Fake Art). I got some school paper work signed and filled out.
I saw a few things I really enjoyed like the gorilla with the body up against the wall with no head, so it look like he ramed his head in. Then it's the bed with christmas lights popping out of it.... looks like a painful resting place but colorful hahaa.... and so much more ^.^

They informed me while I was out sick, they discussed to let us...the interns put up our own show for March. This peice of information for me all excited and giddy lol... So now I'm on the hunt amongst my peers for artwork selection and also the joy of being able to put in my own work too for a gallery show. ^.^ woot woot....

Day 02 - Painting - 6th Hr of Class

Started experimenting with different paint applications while using the bottle, instead of just drawing lines.
On the portrait painting, I expanded the usage to dots and just loose application while layering.

The Hand painting is mostly finished, I'll probably work on a background next time.

The foot painting, I added another layer to it but I was losing the layer of red I liked by the toes :/...

---

I'm going to bring in old, unfinished and dissatisfied paintings from the past few years.
The plan is to paint on top of them and use what was on canvas before as my under painting.

Marcy's going to help me pick which ones to keep and paint over to discard lol...
I'll only be keeping a photo copy of those works before I paint over them.

I've also made plans to possibly stretch some new canvases to give scale a little variety.

Originally, I had planned to paint in many different sizes and then put them together like a puzzle; I just don't know if everything will come together that way once I'm done painting them all. :: fingers crossed! :: lol

-- Besides that, I still want to experiment with some of my ideas and curiosities... hhmmm....

Let the fun begin!! muahahhaaa.... hehhee ^.^

Painting - Day 01 - 3hr class

Model and tubes... lol

Since I was sick all last week... I bought in ready made canvases from home.
One of'em being a portrait that I never finished last semester.
All three canvases were the same size and I took some raw canvas with me as well; since I have a tendency to work fast or too fast lol.

Lucky for me, none of my paints in the bottles dried during winter break. :)

I started finishing the portrait of VanNa, and started new paintings of her hand and feet.

I didn't do an under painting first this time, so I just started painting raw on the canvas. :)
It's a very liberating experience.

New Ideas...

I've been thinking since school started. My theme seem to be lines, so I thought maybe I should try it with strings? I did always love strings, and I did collect a certain amount when I found it in the school.

On the other hand, I did just establish a painting style using my bottle method... hhmmm.....

--- Besides material,
I'm debating figural, or portrait... these seems to be my strong suit....

I can't wait till Marcy gets back so we can start our painting class. I need models!!

Selling artworks...

I've been researching sites to sell art work for the past couple of hours. One of them being Ugallery... which I was accepted by and then they changed their mind due to a pricing disagreement. (Not too professional in their approach.)

Anyways, I just created a account that Cass. found a while ago
> http://www.artbreak.com/ThisChineseArtist <

- - - - - -

Besides that would be the fact that I met the owner of Crossing Art Gallery about 6p.m. > Sunday (Located in Downtown Flushing) There was an internship complication due to someone at their end being unprofessional as well, after resigning from their position of duty.

This was the first time for me to see a crowd of mostly Asians in an art gallery dressed in formal attire, followed by jumbo shrimps and spring rolls on a platter, served by waiters and probably a catering staff in an Art Gallery. There were a few different types of beverages as well, and it was very well put together for this auction event.

Curiosities towards Senior Thesis

Every year the Fine Arts department holds their Senior Thesis show in the F.I.T. Great Hall of our D-Building. This is when all the seniors gets to exhibit their developed style and knowledge after the average of four years in this institution.

I'm wondering if they'll put everyone from both blocks into the show. (Only 1 block last year)

If yes, is the space enough? Will they limit us on size per person?
If no, how will this all work out? What's the criteria to be chosen?

If space is not a problem, what's the biggest scale allowed per person?

What is the dimension of our Great Hall? Or any other place that we'll be exhibiting in?

....
Lastly, I'm wondering what are the size and scale of my comrades hehehhee, besides the stories behind their works.
